Our Director
The
Hinsdale Chorale welcomes Gordon Krauspe as our new Artistic
Director! Gordon replaces Elizabeth Waldon who finished
four years of Directorial leadership for the group in the
spring of 2007.
Gordon S. Krauspe is in his 21st year as
director of choral activities at Wheaton Warrenville South
High School in Wheaton, Illinois where he directs the Chamber
Singers, Concert Chorale, Varsity Women’s Chorale, and the
Men’s Chorale. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a
Master of Music degree from Northern Illinois University.
His teaching experience is at all levels kindergarten
through university. In
his tenure at Wheaton, this nationally recognized choral
program has grown from 2 choirs of 100 singers to 7 ensembles
involving nearly 300 students, and a staff of two choral
directors and 7 private voice instructors.
Mr. Krauspe also directs a Fathers and Sons Chorus each
spring, and serves on the staff of Rising Stars Show Choir
camps each summer. In
addition, he served 2 years as the Senior Chorale director for
Midwest Young Artists, and recently formed the West Suburban
Youth Chorale for high school singers.
His choirs have toured the United States, Canada, and
Europe and have performed at the American Choral Directors
Association Central Division convention, the national
convention of the Music Educators National Conference and for
First Lady Laura Bush at the National School Board Association
Convention. The
Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers were named Grand Champions
at Huntington North, IN (2003) and North Central-MIC, IN
(2004). In 2004
and 2005, the American Music Conference named WW South and
School District 200 as one of the top 100 school music
programs in America.
Recognized
for his inspirational and passionate leadership, Mr. Krauspe
has directed IMEA district choirs, the honor choir for Music
Education Day at the Capitol, as well as district festivals
throughout Illinois. He
serves as a clinician/adjudicator for Heritage, All-American,
and Gateway festivals, and is in steady demand in this
capacity. He is
repeatedly recognized in “Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers.”
Mr. Krauspe has served as Illinois president of the
American Choral Directors Association, and as President of the
Central Division of ACDA. He has also served as a district
chairperson for the Illinois Music Educators Association, and
Chair of High School Activities for ACDA.
Mr. Krauspe has sung professionally as a member of the
Chicago Symphony Chorus, St. James Cathedral - Chicago, the
Fine Arts Chorale and in various choral activities in the
Chicago and suburban region.
He resides in Wheaton, IL with his wife and two
children.
